Example Mosaics


Underwater landscape mosaics are generally stored and anazlyed as (very large) image files. These typically have dimensions of 10,000 to 100,000 pixels on a side. GIS software and desktop image analysis programs can work with large files like these, but they are not covenient for web pages.

We use an online viewer called "Zoomify" to interactively display 2-D versions of our mosaics on the web. Below is a example of a 2-D mosaic displayed in Zoomify using data from Lisa Carne showing one of her Acropora restoration sites in Belize.

We also use a 3-D viewer called "Potree" to visualize point cloud versions of our mosaics. Open a point cloud version of Lisa's site in a new window to view the same data using Potree.
