Polarized Sky radiance distribution
This work has been funded over the years, with different emphasis by ONR and by NASA. The NASA work was funded during the 1990's and early 2000's in our MODIS work as part of the vicarious calibraition effort. This work resulted in at least two papers, one on the instrument(K. J. Voss and Y. Liu, “Polarized radiance distribution measurements of skylight: I. system description and characterization”, 1997, Applied Optics, 36 :6083-6094) and the other on the data collected with this instrument (Y. Liu and K. J. Voss, “Polarized radiance distribution measurements of skylight: II. experiment and data”, 1997, Applied Optics, 36: 8753 - 8764). As part of the ONR RaDYO project we were able to fund building a new instrument with a much better stable table to allow better sky measurements in a more automated fashion.
As part of this ONR work we have recently participated ina pier experiment and two cruises with our new radiance distribution camera system (SkyCam). These are detailed in the following links:
